Tucumcari
Tucumcari, New Mexico – June 14th
We stayed the night at the Super 8 by Wyndham and kicked off our time in Tucumcari by finding the world’s biggest flip-flop. Pretty sure Bigfoot was here—there’s no other explanation.
We cruised by the famous Blue Swallow Motel, where the neon still glows and the sign proudly advertises “TV!” A slick lime green vintage car was parked out front—absolutely photo-worthy.
We passed by Tee Pee Curios, which looked awesome with all its retro signs and colorful vibes. We snagged a great picture, but sadly, they were closed, so we didn’t get to explore inside.
Then came Blake’s Lotaburger—or as we like to call it, “Blake’s Chili and Cheese,” because that’s what we saw advertised big and bold. And something about “LOT A DOG”? We’re not sure what that means, but if you ever need to find it, we know exactly where it is!
As we drove through, we spotted Tucumcari Mountain, which has a big white “T” painted on it with paint using a mop. It was originally a sign to let travelers know there was a place to rest nearby. Practical and iconic.
We’ve had the song “One Road” stuck in our heads the entire trip—seriously, it’s become our road trip anthem. We even added the lyrics so everyone can sing along (whether they want to or not).
Tucumcari seems to really love ice cream—billboards and cute little ice cream shopseverywhere, but every single shop? Closed. All of them. Thankfully, Sonic came to the rescue, and we indulged in a Reese’s Peanut Butter Sonic Blast.
How have we already spent $60 on ice cream in 9 days? We don’t know. But, THANK YOU Dan! You're fueling this frozen dessert frenzy, and we love you for it.
